Analysts expect global foldable phone sales to reach 14 million units in 2022, roughly doubling that of 2021. The competition of the clamshell-style phones is heating up, which will drive down the price of foldable phones. China's foldable displays benefit from the advantage of supporting supply chains.

P50 Pocket is Huawei's first phone that folds up and down (or vertically), which features a 6.9-inch flexible OLED screen supplied by Visionox with a 21:9 aspect ratio and a 120Hz refresh rate. The price of P50 Pocket starts at 8,988 yuan.

The worldwide foldable phone market doubled this year, which has driven the rapid development of OLED foldable displays in China. According to Sigmaintell's data, global foldable phone shipments are expected to reach about 7.2 million units in 2021, up 188% year on year; and the shipments of mainland China's foldable display panels are expected to reach about 1.72 million units in 2021, up 82% year on year.

The foldable phone market is projected to nearly double next year, which will bring opportunities for further growth of flexible and foldable OLED displays made in China. Chen Jun warned that mainland China's foldable OLEDs benefited substantially from the advantage of supporting supply chains, and domestic producers should make efforts to narrow the performance gap with overseas leading manufacturers.
