High-Quality Report of Visionox @SID: Technical Experts Discuss Innovation in Medium and Large-Sized Displays

Author:     Release Time: 2024-05-18

With the accelerated adoption of AMOLED screens in tablets, laptops, and automotive displays, Visionox is actively responding to the market demand for medium and large-sized AMOLEDs. The company is expanding into new medium-sized sectors and exploring new avenues in large-sized displays. At this year’s SID Technology Forum, Visionox’s technical experts engaged in in-depth discussions on the current status, challenges, and cutting-edge trends of medium and large-sized AMOLED technology.

Further Expansion of the Medium-Sized Technical Route

Development of High Mobility and High Reliability Metal Oxide Thin Film Transistors Based on 13.2-Inch AMOLED Display

Compared to LTPS and LTPO, metal oxide TFTs have lower production costs and better electrical uniformity in medium and large sizes, making them a promising candidate for the next generation of high-performance, cost-effective OLED backplane technology. However, increasing mobility often leads to the threshold voltage (Vth) of TFT devices being prone to negative bias, causing reliability degradation and difficulties in maintaining uniformity across large-scale production.

To address these issues, Visionox has developed a metal oxide TFT technology on the G6 mass production line that achieves Vth >0V and mobility >30 cm²/Vs, with good Vth uniformity on large panels. This technology maintains stable TFT performance under prolonged high-voltage stress and enables short-channel devices with a length of 3.5μm on G6 glass substrates, allowing for high PPI and narrow bezels.

Currently, Visionox has successfully lit up and validated a 13.2-inch AMOLED full oxide screen with a resolution of 262 PPI, demonstrating the potential for future mass production of medium-sized AMOLED displays.

Further Upgrading of Large-Sized Technological Achievements

Micro-LED Display: New Opportunities and Challenges

Micro-LED technology offers advantages such as high brightness, wide color gamut, and high reliability, making it easy to achieve flexible, transparent, freely spliced, and sensor-integrated displays. This technology can be applied to a wide range of fields, from micro-displays and consumer electronics to large-scale displays.

VISTAR, a stock-sharing company of Visionox, has achieved breakthroughs in Micro-LED technology, including mass transfer and repair processes, seamless splicing techniques, and optimized driving algorithms based on 25μm LED chips and LTPS glass-based drivers. They successfully developed the industry’s first 88-inch TFT-based Micro-LED splicing screen with front maintenance, featuring 4K resolution, a P0.5 pixel pitch, a mass transfer yield of 99.995%, 600 cd/m² brightness, 100% DCI-P3 color gamut, a 170° 1/3 viewing angle, and 2% reflectivity.

The front maintenance design is more user-friendly compared to back maintenance, as it does not require disassembly from the back, significantly simplifying the process. Users can replace and repair components directly from the front, reducing maintenance costs and time. Additionally, the ultra-low reflectivity creates a new industry standard by using special surface treatment techniques, ensuring clear and vivid images under various lighting conditions without interference from external light sources. This is especially effective for achieving deep blacks on the display.

In September 2023, VISTAR laid the foundation for the world’s first TFT-based Micro-LED production line, which, once completed, will significantly accelerate the commercialization of Micro-LED display technology in China.

Full-Size Technological Yield Continues to Rise

Introduction and Industrialization of ViP Technology

ViP (Visionox intelligent Pixelization) is an innovative AMOLED display technology developed by Visionox that eliminates the need for metal masks. Unlike the current mainstream FMM (Fine Metal Mask) process, ViP achieves pixel patterning through photolithography. By cycling through three “evaporation-photolithography” processes, the OLED structure for three different colored sub-pixels can be formed.

ViP’s new process and independent sub-pixel design unlock the full potential of OLED technology, overcoming many of the technical limitations of the FMM process. Compared to traditional AMOLED products, ViP offers numerous advantages, including longer OLED lifespan, higher brightness, greater resolution, improved image quality, stronger environmental reliability, and the ability to create displays in any size or shape. It also features lower power consumption and cost. This report highlights ViP’s lower power consumption, superior low grayscale image quality, and enhanced environmental reliability.

In May 2023, Visionox globally launched ViP technology and, by December, lit up the first module of the ViP AMOLED mass production project, marking a significant step towards large-scale production. One year later, at the SID Expo, Visionox presented its ViP-based G6 small-scale production line achievements. Visionox aims to accelerate the capacity ramp-up of ViP technology to further transform and apply these technological advancements.
